This route links the Goldfields trail via Blackwood forest starting within reach of the Melbourne metro line at Sunbury. It’s a great ride of 70% gravel road and some great single track. I’ve done variations of this as a day ride and up to 3 days at much more leisurely pace. If you are feeling a little more adventurous you can add in a bit of Wombat singletrack. As a three day ride excellent campgrounds can be found at O’briens Crossing and Mt Franklin. Resupply can be found at Trentham and Glenlyon. A trip report can be found at Commuter cycles
